Enjoy Delicious Pub Food in Camberwell’s Best Beer Garden #invite

Best pub steak, refreshing drinks and a huge sunny beer garden!

On Friday night, we were invited to visit The Sun of Camberwell pub in (you guessed it) Camberwell for dinner and drinks. The weather was stunning so we decided to order some drinks first and sit outside. We chose to sit out the front which has a decent sized terrace of tables and seats by the street but at the back of the pub there is also a huge beer garden that was full of vibez and people soaking the sun up!

First up, we ordered a round of drinks at the bar starting with a very well-made Aperol Spritz (£11.50) and a pint of Moretti (£6.90), both very cold and refreshing!

For our meals we ordered the rib-eye steak with triple cooked chunky chips and watercress (pricey at £33) and the roast hake with jersey royals, and monk’s beard (£23). We also ordered a side portion of skinny fries (£5), not sure why – I guess we were just in the mood for double carbs!

The steak was served simply, on the bone and deliciously tender, with no need for any sauces/butters/flavours stealing the show and my partner actually said this was the best steak he has had in a long time! The chips were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside – the perfect chip – and the watercress had a subtle but nice dressing. I had the roast hake and it was heaven! I’ll be honest and say I wanted to get the steak but wanted to get 2 different dishes and now, I’m so glad I switched to the hake. The fish meat was super flaky, juicy and full of flavour. The potatoes and monk’s beard were sitting in a beautiful garlic butter with capers and my mouth is watering just thinking about it… I tipped half of the remaining fries into the butter too – a bit gross but too good to waste! The perfect dish for a VERY hot Friday night dinner.

We washed our meals down with another pint of Moretti (£6.90) and a large glass of Pinot Grigio Rosé (£9.20) which was the perfect choice and then we cycled back in the sun to our home in Streatham Hill – all in all, a LOVELY Friday night out in South London.

Total spent = £95.50

Rating = 4.8 stars – a little pricey but delicious food and a great atmosphere with super friendly staff!
